Even though it hasn't been consistently documented, I can see that my personal style has evolved quite a bit over time. Even in the year-and-some-months that I've had this blog, my style has grown. I feel like in order to get a better idea of what I like and the look I'm going for, I need to reflect on where I've been and what I've done. I need to see what worked, what didn't and how I can change things so that my style, and this blog, continues to grow.
My college days were definitely filled with a more...we'll call it "chaotic" look. Looking back on it now, I feel that it was more "High School Trendy" and whatever I could afford.
The 30x30 Challenge was something I wanted to tackle right away, mostly because I didn't know what else to talk about in my posts! I do feel like I cheated because I changed some of my items after I started, but ultimately I accomplished my goal. I want to give this another shot soon, but focus more on the "different ways to wear this" part. Maybe I'll do a 28x28 Challenge for the month of February!
At this point I learned the beauty of thrifting and reconstructing. This mostly came from boredom and a lack of access to a decent mall. While I don't really do this anymore, I feel like it's definitely a good skill to have.
While initially, I thought The Kate Factor was a great idea (I still do!), it fell through pretty quickly. I think it's because I never really felt an attachment to any of the Kate's styles. It just seemed like I was looking up pictures of celebrities with the same name as me and trying to copy an outfit, which proved difficult when I found that I had all the wrong pieces for this. Through trial and error I learned that my personal style didn't match up with any Kate's.
All my reconstructing eventually flowed into creating my own designs. This is one I miss. I really need to push myself to get back to sewing. The satisfaction of creating something completely unique and fitted to me 300% out-weighs the time and patience it takes to actually sew something from scratch. But, that is what fashion is all about after all, isn't it?
Since getting my job at Shopbop, I feel like I've learned so much about fashion. Having access to more designer items has taught me quality over quantity when it comes to my wardrobe (of course, there are always exceptions!). I've learned how to branch out while still remaining true to me. I've learned how to simplify without becoming boring. I've even learned what exactly IS me!
This is still a learning process and there are lots of good things to come. My brain has been filled with new ideas and concepts I can't wait to share!
